1. Crime Short Story Competition
Have you got what it takes to be the next Steig Larsson or Henning Mankell? If so there’s a place on a Birkbeck College creative writing course up for grabs when you take part in the Brent Libraries short story competition. Swedish crime fiction author Camilla Ceder has written the opening line to a story.
I teorin har Margareta fungerat väl som hans representativa partner. Margareta är en så kallad bedagad skönhet, en gång i tiden en ”sjungande skönhetsmiss”. Det hade inte skadat om hon drack mindre.
In theory, Margaret had functioned well as his partner. She was a faded beauty who had once been a celebrated singer. It would not have hurt for her to drink less.
All you have to do is complete the story in no more than 2,000 words. Brent Libraries, poet Kate Potts and author Gunnar Staalesen will judge the competition
2. Creative Writing Workshop
If you need help with writing short stories you may like to join the Willesden Green Writers Group, which meets every Thursday, 8pm at Willesden Green Library Centre. Birkbeck College will also be running a free workshop on how to get started with fiction at Willesden Green Library Centre on Tuesday 15 February, 6–7.30pm.
