South Kilburn Speaks is a text based art project run by the Poetry School for South Kilburn Partnership. Three writers are working with local people to create and document stories to capture a shared sense of place that will be translated into public art. This includes temporary installations on hoarding boards as well as permanent ones on railings, paving slabs and sculptural bollards.
If you live or work in South Kilburn, then drop in to see us at Workshop 24, Peel Precinct, off Granville Road. We’re there Mondays and Wednesdays from 1 till 4 and Tuesdays from 10 till 1 until the end of February. We’re also running writing workshops and story collecting activities for local people.
If you have a story, poem, lyrics or observation about South Kilburn that you’d like to see turned into public art then email it to aoifemannix@hotmail.com.
If you’ve ever looked at a public sculpture or a mural and thought what’s that got to do with me, this is your chance to create art that uses your words to say something to your community. We’re looking to tell the story of South Kilburn’s history, the radical changes it’s going through, its hopes and fears, the challenges it faces, and its dreams for the future. The final pieces will be installed in South Kilburn as a testament to the creative talents of all those who take part in the project. If you are interested in learning more, please contact aoifemannix@hotmail.com.
